Intermediate Department
Cathy M (parent to Keegan, Year 7 2010)
My husband and I were blessed to have our son enter into LAC’s Intermediate Department. This is Keegan’s first year at Intermediate and he has excelled in his confidence towards exploring and discovering a passion for learning. This I believe has extended from the commitment of the dedicated teachers and their enthusiasm to impart their knowledge and wisdom to each of their students. Since being at LAC, Keegan has developed a strong sense of belonging, awareness and, above all else, confidence. For him there is a strong kinship with teachers and students alike. Keegan’s needs - intellectual, physical, social and spiritual - are being met and therefore enhancing the young man Keegan will soon become. As a parent I wanted Keegan to attend an intermediate that held opportunities for him to achieve, discover and learn more about himself and his own capabilities. Furthermore, I wanted Keegan to be in a safe environment where he could put his abilities to the test, receiving encouragement and enthusiasm from his teachers. Above all else, I wanted Keegan to be happy, as this was to be the preparation ground for college and beyond. LAC is providing all this for Keegan. My sincere hope is for Keegan to complete his college years here at LAC.
Brent M (parent to Keegan, Year 7 2010)
Greetings to you all!
My name is Brent and I am married to Cathy. We have four children, of which three are adults with families of their own. Our youngest son is currently attending Longburn Adventist College and he is enrolled within the Intermediate Department.
In selecting LAC, it was through a process of ruling out schools that were unsuitable for Keegan and his abilities. We both felt that we had to find a school which would challenge him academically and be socially as well as morally minded.
We visited LAC before applying for Keegan to be accepted and were highly impressed by what the school offered. Since then we have found that Longburn is the ideal place where academic achievement is set as a priority, rather than putting sports and cultural activities above all else. We are very happy that Keegan is a student at Longburn and to see that he has settled in very well to his new environment and is enjoying school. That is an important factor to consider, because when he is happy in what he is doing then that will bring out the best in him.
Cathy (parent to Rachel, Year 8 2010)
My daughter came from a small school of 30 students to LAC mid-year and she was a bit daunted by the thought of it all. She turned up and walked down the corridor and was immediately faced with hoards of bouncing, noisy intermediate students. I thought “Oh no, will she fit in?” but that thought soon disappeared when a young girl came straight up to her and started introducing her to everyone around. My daughter's expression changed from one of apprehension to one of amazement and I knew we had made the right decision. The classroom provided her with a safe, fun and caring environment and she soon felt free to be herself and discover talents she never knew she had. Thanks to the teacher's positive affirmation she has gained a confidence I've not seen before. Along with creative classroom activities, the homework given has helped to stretch her mind and prepare her for high school. Thank you LAC!

When looking for an Intermediate School for our daughter, we wanted somewhere that we were confident would take a holistic approach with regard to their students. LAC has fulfilled this mindset through small class sizes, and good academic and spiritual education. We have a very happy, confident daughter who is thoroughly enjoying her time at LAC and who is looking forward to continuing there throughout her secondary years.
Simon and Rachel (parents to Elise, Year 7 2010)
Elise is our eldest child and therefore LAC is new to us this year. We really wanted to settle her into LAC through the intermediate school years so that by high school she felt well and truly at home. We have been totally amazed at how well Elise has settled in over the past two terms; she has made new friends both in the classroom and also on the school bus. She is very happy at LAC and we have also found the teaching staff to be very friendly and happy to answer any questions or concerns we may have. We are so much looking forward to being able to send our three younger children to LAC over the next several years. Thank you LAC for being such a happy, positive and Christ-centred school; it is lovely to see Elise not only grow academically but also learn to know and love our Saviour more and more each and every day.
Kathryn and Carl (parents to Diana, Year 7 and Blake, Year 10 2010)
When we were considering intermediate and secondary schooling options for our children, we felt a real sense of peace about choosing LAC. After three and a half years' association with the school, we can confirm that we made the right choice. We like the fact that the students don't have to change schools after Year 8. Our son and daughter have been challenged and extended academically and spiritually. The teachers are very approachable, and the whole school atmosphere is caring and nurturing. Knowing that the staff pray regularly for our children has value beyond words. We will have no hesitation about sending our youngest there when the time comes.
