Principal
When I arrived at LAC over twelve years ago I came from a lengthy background of teaching in all-boys’ schools. I began my teaching at Hutt Valley High School (co-ed) in the mid-70s then taught successively at Palmerston North Boys' High School, St Kentigern College and Marlborough Boys' College.
In education my special interest has been Boys' Education but now my career has gone full circle and I'm back in a co-ed school, I have to confess, teaching girls is just as rewarding as teaching boys!
Longburn has a special place in my heart as it is where I did my secondary schooling, and many of the old names from the past fifty years are people I knew personally. To return as principal to your 'old school' is really special, and something I treasure. As a historian I especially value the history of our college. We have a rich legacy here.
I just love the way so many of our students succeed while they are at college and when they move on. One of my burning ambitions is to see that success continue in the future.
When I have time away from school I love to go fishing (both fly-fishing and sea fishing), drive the boat while my family skis, read a good book and, if time permits, go travelling around New Zealand - this really is an amazing country and we are all blessed to live here!
