Mathematics Teacher
Travel, learning, Australia, mathematics, family, God… a few words which describe who I am.
Born in Western Australia, I grew up on a sheep farm. One of six children, we all helped around the farm and enjoyed a simple life together. After completing high school, I shifted to New South Wales to complete a Bachelor of Science (maths major, chemistry minor) and Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at Avondale College. It was at this time that I started to seriously consider volunteering - going to another country to serve people in need. I had never dreamed of travelling before, and it was to change the direction of my life.
Two days after graduating from Avondale, I was on a plane headed to Thailand to teach in a refugee camp. It was fascinating to be able to adapt and interact with a completing different culture. The longer that I spent in the camp, the more I realised how complicated and busy we make our lives, all for little gain. From this experience I now have many life-long friends and a greater trust in God.
Finishing up in Thailand, I accepted a job at Longburn Adventist College, New Zealand, starting in Term 1, 2009. Never having been to New Zealand before, I knew nobody and didn’t really know what to expect. I arrived to find a God-focused school that is in a rural setting with smaller classes, helpful staff and a great family feel.
At Longburn Adventist College, my goal is to help all students gain a stronger relationship with God and to achieve their best with their education, especially in the area of mathematics.
