Student Dev.Academic ProgrammeLAC offers a wide range of subjects, a typical selection including: English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Information Technology (computing), Science, Art, Technology, Physical Education, Bible, Music, Photography, Biology.There are two methods of gaining University Entrance in New Zealand. These are: Year 13 External Examination or Unit Standard Credits (internally SCAN13.JPGassessed) or the newly-introduced NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement). Most years 100% of our students gain University Entrance. Reports on student progress are sent out twice a year. EmotionalThe Chaplaincy support team is totally committed to God and to young people. The support team consists of the Chaplain, the Youth Worker, the Campus Ministries Director and the Counsellor. Residential caregivers are also available for help/ support. At LAC there will always be a listening ear and plenty of support for students.Physical and Extra CurricularLAC incorporates into the curriculum different sports and extra curricular activities such as basketball, netball, volleyball, hockey, soccer, etc. Music opportunities abound at LAC. In 1999 our choir reached the finals of the New Zealand Secondary Schools Choir Festival. The choir does a number of local performances. Individual instrumental and vocal tuition is also available (fees apply) from qualified instructors who visit the school on a regular ServiceStudents may have the opportunity to travel away on service trips. In the past successful trips have been held to such places as Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, etc. Service activities include Building, Maintenance, running Bible Schools and various outreach opportunities. In 2010 students went to Solomon Islands. Fundraising for such trips is sometimes involved. SpiritualPositive Christian values such as: Service, Integrity, Reliability, Trust, Determination and Resilience, amongst many others, are taught and encouraged at LAC. Through Bible as a compulsory subject, Chapel, Week of Prayer, Bible in Schools each student is given opportunities to get to know Jesus as their personal Saviour. |
