Academic music is a compulsory part of Years 7, 8 and 9. Students learn the basics of reading, writing, creating and performing music. Year 10 is a year-long option subject. Students extend their basic skills and prepare for senior music.

In Levels 1, 2 and 3, students hone their abilities through analysis and evaluation of major music works, solo and group performance opportunities, composition and other creative tasks. The year is capped off with an evening public performance and final preparations for external exams.
