NCEA ACHIEVEMENT
We are proud of our LAC students who continue to achieve at increasingly higher standards. Here are some statistics on how well they performed:
Over 2016 & 2017, 87.9% of LAC student leavers had gained NCEA Level 3 with the national average being 83.1% in 2016.
Over the last 2 years, 79% of LAC student leavers gained NCEA Level 2.
The 2017 LAC Year 13 class continued this trend, and these were their results:
In 2017, there were 51 Year 13 students. Of those 51 students:
- 8 students left during the year (work or tertiary study)
- 92.3% gained NCEA Level 3
- 23.5% gained NCEA with Merit endorsements at Level 3
- 26.5% gained NCEA with Excellence endorsements at Level 3
- 71.8 % gained University Entrance with others gaining required results for specific vocational pathways
We look forward to seeing some fantastic results in the Emergency Derived Grade Exams and subsequently, the NCEA external exams commencing on 7th November.
NEW SUBJECTS FOR 2018
Two new subjects, Health and Design, have been introduced into the senior curriculum of study. Level 1 Health will allow the student to examine particular aspects that contribute to the general health and wellbeing of a person such as influences on adolescent eating habits, demonstration of interpersonal skills and general skills to support wellbeing.
Design, which falls under Visual Arts, is an area where the artist can apply their digital designs to a brief. Students can create a brand and design T-shirts, packaging, logos and posters, as well as apply this to other textural mediums. This provides the students with a perspective on the social visual world around them.
The junior school has also had some restructuring of subjects where a more theme-based approach has been taken. This includes new areas such as Integrated Studies, Team Encounter and Technology.
