Digital Parents Corner

Teaching our Youth to Lead with Integrity when using Digital Technology.

In a world where young people are “growing up digitally-minded” it is important that, at both home and school, we are teaching and reinforcing healthy behaviours for the use of digital technology.

At LAC we use the PB4L Digital Environment Matrix to outline our expectations when students are using digital technology at school. It’s a good idea to have a “dinner table conversation” with your children about how they lead with Integrity at home when using their digital device. Integrity means doing the right thing, even when nobody is checking up on them. What strategies do you use to help your children do the right thing with digital devices and on the internet?

Have you tried:

- Only using devices in the lounge or kitchen or keeping the bedroom door open when online

-Talking with your children about what they are studying/watching/accessing/playing

- Agree on some time limits around when devices and the internet can be used

-There are lots of extra ideas and information available at https://www.netsafe.org.nz/online-safety-for-parents/
