Music Learning Area News

Senior Soiree

Beaven Ganaii and Rachel Jaboon hosted the evening, which turned out to be a successful end to Year 11-13 Solo and Group Performances. Nineteen students were involved in Senior Performance Music this year, all achieving either Merit or Excellence.  Well done everyone!

Guest Tutor

Our Itinerant Piano Tutor, Chris Dann, taught the Intermediate Music Class how to write a story using ‘creative composition’ on the piano. Students were divided into groups of three, given time to come up with the story, add the musical effects and then present their story to the class.  The task resulted in some creative thinking and lots of fun.

Junior String Ensemble

The Music Department Itinerant programme has produced some budding musicians who will be playing in an Ensemble at the Junior Music Concert. Students include NN, Jodie and Jessica on the Violin and Eden and Hamish on Cello.

Senior String Ensemble

In spite of losing Senior instrumentalists at the end of last year, the String Ensemble continued to function this year resulting in a performance at Year 11 & 12 Prizegiving where the Ensemble played Five Scottish Reels. Students included Lexi Rutherford-Blyth, Lydia Pavarno, SM Miado and NN Miado.

Itinerant Music Lessons

The Music Department continues to provide lessons to assist students to develop their musical skills and ability.  This includes NCEA students taking Music as a subject as well as students who either enjoy music or who would like to take Music as a subject in their future.  This year’s lessons were offered in violin, cello, ukulele, piano, keyboard, singing, acoustic and electric guitar. This year 40 students were involved in the programme.

Roadshow

A few Junior Students will be visiting the SDA Primary School and Longburn Primary School in a few weeks time in order to inspire students to learn a musical instrument.

Junior Music Concert

To be held in the LAC Chapel on Thursday 28 November at 7.00 pm. All Welcome.

Year 13 Music

This year all four Year 13 Music Students passed with excellence in Solo and Group Performance. Well done Val, Rachel, Heather and Beaven.
